CEC in the News: Direction, future of US solar panel industry in conflict after tariffs

President Trump’s solar panel tariff decision continues to garner media attention, with FOX News being the latest outlet to explore the ramifications of artificially increasing everyone’s price of power. In ‘Direction, future of US solar panel industry in conflict after Trump’s tariffs’, FOX News reporter Alicia Acuna interviews CEC Founder and CEO Paul Spencer on how tariffs will impact the industry. According to Spencer, the decision will ultimately hurt more US companies than it helps:

“Should we take advantage of that cheap price of an energy product and be able to have cheap energy for all of our residents, or should we somehow artificially increase everybody’s price of power just so we can have a couple of companies that can survive making solar panels in the United States?”

Spencer noted jobs will be lost in manufacturing and engineering solar arrays, installing them and selling the solar power itself. In fact, the Solar Energy Industries Association estimates that 23,000 jobs will be lost this year as a result of the tariffs.
